When Children are overweight there are implications and hardship for the whole family. A recent report in the New York Times by Lesley Alderman said "One in three children in this country are overweight. We adults, as their mentors, are a dismal two thirds of the population overweight! What message are we sending our kids? Overweight children are at risk of developing serious and costly health problems that used to be primarily the province of middle aged adults. Diseases such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease."
It went on further to say "A recent C.D.C. study found that 22% of overweight (and 43% of obese) young people had, abnormal blood lipid level, like high triglycerides, which are risk factors for heart disease."
But the good news is there are inexpensive and fun ways kids can manage obesity and overweight problems. And parents, you can help as well. Working out and eating well are two of the most straight up common sense approaches to keeping your child's health on track.
